German Christmas Market, Sofia

This year Sofia has a Christmas market again. Last year it was situated close to Sofia University, but now it has a new location.

The market is small, but that actually makes it cozy and charming. It’s situated in the city garden (check the City Garden article). It was opened on the 26th of November and it will stay until December 22 – every day from 11:00 – 23:00.

The market is organized under the patronage of the German ambassador and therefore it resembles a typical German Christmas market – with mulled wine, Christmas cookies, German sausages and other yummy stuff. However, if you’re not a mulled wine type and especially if you don’t like sausages, the market has something very special to offer you. First, stop at the booth of Dutch Baker Jovanfor a delicious Christmas cake. Then visit the booth of Tea Team for a cup of hot full-flavored tea – here you can choose from 30 types of black, green, white and fruit teas.

A small stage with Bulgarian and German music adds to the atmosphere. The organizers have even thought about the younger visitors of the market and for them there’s a small carousel.

Also, at each booth the visitors can leave a donation, which goes to children with no parental care and disabled people. And isn’t Christmas the best time to help the ones in need?
